Family Literacy Night

Summer is here and school may be out, but that doesn’t mean that learning takes a break! JLSN Members are invited to join us Tuesday,  July 28th as we host a Family Literacy Night for our friends from Springdale Elementary School. Why is a summer program beneficial to our kindergartners and first and second graders? According to a 2001 report, “The Role of Public Libraries in Children’s Literacy Development,” the University of Michigan’s Susan Neuman and Temple University’s Donna Celano noted that “for every one line of print read by low-income children, middle-income children read three”—and the disparity between these two groups is greatest during the summer.” You can not only help to lessen that disparity, but have a great time doing it.
