Our History
The Junior League of Stamford was incorporated February 9, 1923 with 11 charter members. In that first year 40 women volunteered with several different charities including the Visiting Nurse Association, the Associated Charities, the Children’s Home, Neighborhood House, the Red Cross and Stamford Hospital. The organization grew quickly. By 1925 100 women performed 4,660 hours of community service.
Throughout the 20th Century, the League continued to expand its membership and respond to community needs. Over 85 organizations have been founded by or collaborated with JLSN. Even as the times and women’s roles changed, our mission remained steadfast.
Today, our League members volunteer countless hours per year in League placements, on Community Boards and as trained community volunteers. We recognize the tremendous legacy begun by our charter members and celebrate their vision. We are inspired by them to continue that work which will effect a lasting difference in our community.
In 2008, we celebrated 85 years of service to the community. Download our Special Edition of Blueprints created for the occasion here.

Without the dedication of the women who have served as President of our League, we would not be the vital organization that we are today. We are grateful for their service and devotion to the Mission of the Junior League
