Fall 2010 Provisional Requirements
The goal of the course is to expose you to the many aspects of our League and to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to enable you to feel confident and be a productive, contributing member on your first committee placement. Therefore, we ask that you participate in a range of fun and rewarding activities. To become an active League member, you must meet the following requirements:
1. Complete the provisional course: You must attend at least four of five provisional meetings. If you miss any additional meetings, you will be required to attend those meetings with the Spring 2010 class before you’re eligible to be voted active. Meetings for the Fall 2010 Provisional class will take place on: Wednesday, September 15th, Thursday, September 30th, Wednesday, October 13th, Monday, October 25th and Wednesday, November 10th. Meetings will be held at the JLSN office or other locations from 7:15 pm-9:15 pm.
2. Attend a JLSN General Membership Meeting (also earns 1 credit): You must attend at least one JLSN membership meeting. Meetings are informative, a great opportunity to meet other JLSN members, often incorporate valuable training components and highlight our upcoming activities and events.
3. Earn FIVE Additional Credits: You must earn 5 credits by attending/volunteering for at least 3 separate JLSN credit earning events. Examples include: training sessions (usually 1 credit); volunteering at events conducted by Done in a Day, Healthy Families, JLSN Diaper Co-Op, Spring Spirits and Winterfair (usually these earn 2 credits per 2-hour shift); and General Membership Meeting attendance (earns 1 credit). Information about credit earning opportunities will be: announced at Provisional Meetings, announced at Membership Meetings, emailed to you, noted within Friday Flashes (distributed every Friday via email), noted within Blueprints (distributed quarterly via email) and posted on the JLSN website (www.jlsn.org).
4. Participate in and complete a “Provisional Project”: This gives you the opportunity to work together as a team on a project that will benefit the League and prepare you for placement as an Active. Supervision will be limited. You will be given time during Provisional Meetings to work on the project; additional sub-committee meetings will likely be necessary. The date for the Provisional Project event to be held is Sunday, November 6th; your attendance on that date will be vital. At the completion of the project, a final report is required documenting work involved.
5. Pay JLSN dues and provisional fees: The total amount of $184 ($134 in dues (includes $35 in AJLI dues) and $50 course fee) is due by the start of the course and is non-refundable.
